All the children in Faya Orphanage arrived for different reasons.
Some of the children are orphans, like 4.6 million other children in Ethiopia. Often, one or more of their parents has passed away because of AIDS or an HIV-related illness. Others have a family that simply doesn’t have the means to support them or keep them alive. So the family members decide to do the best they can for their children and relinquish them to Faya Orphanage. Other children, especially babies, have no story. They simply show up – on a doorstep or tucked into the gate of a compound, and the local government brings them to the open arms of the Faya Orphanage staff.
Many of the children themselves are HIV+, although some are not. There is a still a huge stigma in Ethiopia about AIDS, and children often are not welcome in their neighborhood or even in their family once they have been diagnosed or become obviously sick.
All of these children, though, find a home at Faya Orphanage. They find love, cuddles, food, healthcare, encouragement, attention, fun, sharing, schooling and companionship. This is a permanent home for some of the children, especially those with HIV/AIDS. In the past, children have gone on to be adopted from Faya Orphanage to permanent families in Canada and the USA. However, at this time, adoptions are stalled in the region and all the children are expected to be living at Faya Orphanage for some time.
As a Faya child sponsor, you enable the Faya children’s needs to be met. They will be clothed, fed, hugged, and tucked in at night by loving caregivers, because of your support.

As a sponsor, you will receive news and pictures of your sponsored child, twice a year. You will get to know them and watch them grow. You become a member of the Vulnerable Children Society for the duration of your sponsorship, and receive bi-annual newsletters with updates from our partner organization, Faya Orphanage.
NOTE: $1 of each monthly sponsorships payment, in addition to our membership revenues, cover Vulnerable Children Society administrative costs (such as sending money to Ethiopia.) There is more than one sponsor for each Faya Child, as the orphanage costs are much greater than the sponsorship amount. We are 100% volunteer-run.
