Since Canadian tax deadlines are around the corner, several donors and sponsors have asked if Vulnerable Children Society is a registered charity and if we are issuing tax receipts. The short answer is: not this year, but hopefully the next!
The slightly longer answer is that we have been a registered non-profit society in good standing in British Columbia since October 2010. But to apply to Revenue Canada for charitable status, we needed to do a lot of additional paperwork.
Part of our preparation was to have a signed agreement with our partner, which we accomplished last November. Vulnerable Children Society has a yearly renewable contract with Faya Orphanage which details each of our roles, responsibilities and budgets. We also had a large charitable status application to fill out, which we sent away this week.
So the great news is that we have applied to Revenue Canada to become a charity, and hopefully next year, all you kind supporters will be receiving tax receipts! Thanks for your wonderful contributions.
