We have some good news about the progress of our new educational centre in Guder. Our new partner has been working cooperatively with our Vulnerable Children consultant in Ethiopia. Our VCS consultant competed a costed centre budget and our partner is in the process of revisiting the project with their board, and gaining approvals from local governments.
For sponsors, there will be an amazing opportunity to visit the centre, once it is up and running. The centre will only be a short day trip away from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. We will also encourage visitors to bring school supplies, which will be distributed to the kids at the centre, as well as the kids in our House 2 House program.
If you were previously a Faya Orphanage sponsor and are now an Educational Centre sponsor, you can expect regular updates from the new centre. At this point, we have retained all of our sponsors in the transition, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Our updates usually come out in August and in February, so your first Education Centre update should be at the end of this summer.
Educational Centre sponsors will get photos and stories of the centre and the kids in action, including the activities and the involvement of the guardians. One important idea behind this centre is that guardians will contribute in different ways, to encourage relevance and buy-in, so you can expect to see more of the wonderful adults taking care of our Guder kids.
Each update, we will also profile one of the children in the centre, so that you can see, in a personal way, the difference the program has made in their lives. This is similar to what we did in the August 2012 update for the orphanage.
House 2 House sponsors can expect a photo and an update on their specific sponsored child, as well as organizational updates. All the update data will be collected by the new centre staff, and formatted and sent by our volunteer Canadian update coordinator, Rita.
A huge thank you again to all of our wonderful donors who have supported us through this transition. We have received so many emails of support, and we thank you so much for your continued care and trust!
We will keep you updated as this project progresses, and shout it from the rooftops when it is a sure thing!
