BUY ETHIOPIA ABCs
Introducing Ethiopia ABCs – a gorgeous photobook for children.
Each page teaches kids and parents about rural Ethiopian life and culture, while learning their ABCs.
All the pictures were taken between Addis Ababa and Nakemte, which was a bumpy day-long drive west of the capital.
All of the net proceeds (approx. $10 for every book) will be donated by author/photographer Arnica to Vulnerable Children Society’s administration fund.
Please click on the links below to preview the book and buy a copy or a few! Thanks for your support of Vulnerable Children Society!
Thanks so much to a donor who sent us this news. Until the end of the month, CapitalOne will donate $10 ON TOP OF YOUR DONATION! to a registered charity through CanadaHelps!
We have a lot of amazing projects on the go, and would really appreciate you making a small donation and help us take advantage of this fab offer from CapitalOne. All you have to do is take a small quiz and they will contribute $10 to Vulnerable Children Society!
- Take the Charity Fraud Awareness Quiz!!!
- Make a donation to VULNERABLE CHILDREN SOCIETY at the end of the quiz, via the link to CanadaHelps.org.
- Capital One Canada will add $10 to your donation!
Why is CapitalOne doing this? From the CanadaHelps website:
To educate the public about charity fraud, Capital One Canada and CanadaHelps are teaming up during Fraud Prevention Month for the third annual Charity Fraud Awareness Quiz. This quiz will help participants identify the signs of charity fraud to hopefully avoid these malicious schemes. During the month of March, Capital One will also be topping up individual donations made through CanadaHelps.org by $10, up to a total of $25,000 for Canadian charities.
The online Charity Fraud Awareness Quiz is designed to inform Canadians about the risk of charity fraud and how to prevent it. Accessible at http://www.canadahelps.org/CharityFraud/LandingPage.aspx, every participant who completes the quiz will be eligible to have their personal donation made via Canadahelps topped up by $10, thanks to Capital One Canada.
Capital One and CanadaHelps offer the following charity fraud prevention tips:
- Make sure the charity is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and provides you with their charitable registration number. CanadaHelps.org only lists charities registered with the CRA
- Ask to see a charity’s financial statements. These should be readily available to anyone who asks and give you a sense of how the charity spends their money
- Understand the impact the charity has and what difference they make in the community. Charities should be able to give you clear outcomes of the programs or services they provide
- Research the causes you want to support and how much of your budget you want to donate to charity. You will feel less pressured to give when solicited if you have already planned your giving
- Avoid any charity that pressures you into making a donation or isn’t open to sharing more information about their organization
Holiday gifts are a very important source of revenue for Vulnerable Children Society. Did you know, $100 can feed 10 children injera (the staple bread in Ethiopia) for a month? What Canadians spent on eating lunch out for a week can provide the basic food and shelter necessities for a deserving child for a month. Every bit counts! Plus, people really appreciate a gift that they can connect with and know changes a child’s life.
You can help us fundraise for Vulnerable Children Society by putting a badge promoting our holiday gift giving on your website or blog.
We appreciate it so much! Here are the simple instructions:
- Download a holiday gift or sponsorship badge (slightly larger than shown):
- IMPORTANT: Link the badge to : https://vulnerablechildren.ca/donate/holiday-gifts
ALTERNATIVELY, you can paste this html code into a widget or onto a page in the html area:
<span style="color: #ff0000;"><em><a href="https://vulnerablechildren.ca/donate/holiday-gifts" target="_blank"><img title="VCS Holiday Giving Small Icon" src="https://vulnerablechildrenethiopia.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/vcs-holiday-giving-small-icon.jpg" alt="" width="172" height="130" /></a></em></span>
And if you still have a little shopping left to do yourself, please sponsor a child or make a donation in your loved one’s name!
Thank you so much for your help!!!!
NOTE: All one-time donations to Vulnerable Children Society are put into our project account, and used for our current projects. Over the last year, these projects have included the administration of the House 2 House program, and drought relief food aid. In the coming year we will be helping furnish an educational centre in rural Ethiopia and fill it with books. We are 100% volunteer-run.Our membership fees, and $1 of each monthly sponsorships payment, cover Vulnerable Children Society administrative costs.
A long-time supporter of Vulnerable Children Society Tamara Mickel has self-published a lovely photobook entitled “The Other Ethiopia.”
The wonderful thing about this project is that 10% of Tam’s book sales will be donated to Vulnerable Children Society. Isn’t that awesome! Please preview the book and maybe even purchase a copy! (What a great holiday gift!)
A little more info about the book:
This is a photo journal of our summer spent in Ethiopia. It is my hope that through this book, people will see for themselves that Ethiopia is so much more than we are normally shown. More than famine, dust and dispair. Ethiopia possesses tremendous beauty, vibrant culture, and incredible resilience.
A portion of the proceeds will go to Vulnerable Children’s Society, an organization that helps children and their families in Ethiopia.
